LONDON - The London Majors scored six runs in the second inning and had
a 17-0 lead after just five innings and coasted to a 17-4 romp over the
Leafs.
The Majors had 25 hits in the game and roughed up three
Toronto pitchers, including starter Justin Cicatello, who didn't
survive the second inning after a remarkable 192-pitch effort in his
last start.
The Leafs (16-19)
fell into a hole early, trailing 2-0 after one inning, 8-0 after two,
13-0 after four and 17-0 after five. London (21-14) held the Leafs off
the score sheet until the eighth inning when the Leafs scored all four
of their runs.
Jordan Townshend started for the Majors and
earned the win, allowing just one hit with three walks and five
strikeouts over six innings pitched.
Chris Stewart, Ryan
Lapensee and Derrik Strzalkowski each had four of London’s whopping 25
hits on the night. Stewart drove in three runs and scored three times,
while Lapensee drove in two and scored one, and Strzalkowski scored
twice, driving in one. Paul Young added three hits with two RBI and a
run scored while Paul LaMantia also had a three hit night, driving in
one and scoring twice.
Paul Lytwynec had a pair of hits, a
pair of RBI and three runs scored for London, and Larry Balkwill had a
hit, an RBI and two run scored. Adwin Springer and Cleveland Brownlee
each registered a hit, an RBI and a run scored, while Jon Celestino and
Parris Austin each had a hit with Austin adding a run scored in the win.
Cicatello was the starter and loser for the Leafs, allowing
seven hits and eight runs with two walks and one strikeout over 1 2/3
innings pitched. Adam Garner and Cam Gray were the other Leaf pitchers
and were also hit hard in the loss.
The Leafs mustered eight
hits on Friday, while committing three errors. Raul Borjas and Branfy
Arias were the only Leafs to manage two-hit performances. Arias homered
and singled, while Borjas singled twice and scored a run. Sean Mattson
hit a three run homer, while Rob Gillis, Dan Marra and Franco Pace each
registered hits. Gray, who also played left field, added a run scored in
the loss.
